Crowns

Goolwa Dental Surgery offers restorative dentistry including crowns. A dental crown is designed to cover and protect the remaining tooth structure.

Crowns are custom made in Goolwa. We take impressions of the teeth, so the laboratory can fabricate the crown. Our local ceramist then completes the crown which is fitted by our dental team and bonded in place.

Your crowns will look completely natural, matching the surrounding teeth for a seamless smile.

By the time your tooth needs a crown, it must be extensively damaged. Although technology is advancing, statistically, of all teeth crowned that start off ‘alive’ 3% compounding will ‘die’ per year. This means after 30 years, 90% of teeth crowned will require root canal treatment. This is independent of who does the crown or what technology is used. At Goolwa Dental we have access to the latest technology and try to provide you with the best long term dental choices for you.

Bridges

There are two types of bridges, adhesive/bonded bridges and fixed bridges.

Adhesive bridges stick onto the adjacent teeth while fixed bridges involve drilling the adjacent teeth.

The Maryland Bridge is an ultra-conservative adhesive bridge treatment option. It allows our dentist to splint or replace missing teeth with an absolute minimum amount of tooth modification. This type of bridge combines a composite resin or porcelain tooth attached to an acid etched cast metal or porcelain framework.

Fixed bridges are generally stronger than adhesive bridges. All-ceramic bridges replace a missing tooth by way of a porcelain replacement tooth attached to one or two adjacent crowns.

The main contraindication for bridges is the removal of healthy tooth tissue of adjacent teeth. For this reason, at Goolwa Dental we recommend dental implants as the ideal alternative to tooth replacement.

Bridges remain a viable alternative for patients who are not candidates for dental implants.

Veneers

Veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material used to cover worn, uneven, chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth.

Veneers are ideal for helping patients achieve a whiter smile when whitening procedures don’t achieve the desired shade. Veneers also serve the purpose of protecting the surface of damaged teeth, and in some cases may replace the need for a crown.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has become a popular option for patients who want to improve their smile and can be used as a regular treatment or for special occasions such as weddings or functions.

Our dentists offer the convenience of take-home teeth whitening packs, depending on your teeth whitening requirements.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are fixtures of titanium which are surgically placed into your jawbone. They act as replacement tooth roots, providing an anchor for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth.

Dental implants help eliminate problems with poor fitting dentures — preventing the false tooth or teeth from moving around. They will increase your confidence and allow you to eat normally, without worrying about dentures.

Our dentists in Goolwa have been involved in implant dental reconstruction for 20+ years. We work closely with a team of highly experienced oral surgeons, periodontists and prosthodontists to try to achieve an ideal result for you.

Dentures

Dentures are designed to replace teeth and provide support for lips and cheeks. As a removable appliance, dentures can be a convenient option for applicable patients.

Your dentist may suggest complete or partial dentures, depending on your needs.

Goolwa Dental Surgery specialise in dentures and offers extensive experience in denture constructure. We use a local laboratory, and technician Lyndon Bartlett, so you can feel assured that you are supporting our local South Australian dental industry.
